Schempp-Hirth Discus b D-5095

The Schempp-Hirth Discus is a Standard class single-seat glider produced between 1984 and 1995, is considered one of the most successful gliders ever produced, and more than 850 examples were built.

The Discus is constructed almost entirely of fiberglass with the exception of some components made of carbon fiber, the wings contain 184 L ballast tanks for a maximum wing loading of about 50 kg/m², and the best efficiency is 42.5. Easy and safe to assemble and equipped with state-of-the-art solutions for gliders in its class, the Discus clearly outperformed previous examples by dominating the standard class of the 1980s by winning the 1985, 1987 and 1989 editions of the World Gliding Championship.

The Discus is popular among gliding clubs because it is a high-performance glider, but with flight characteristics that make it within the reach of even the inexperienced pilot. ACAO has two of these(D-1857 and D-5095) available to members who wish to undertake distance soaring flights.
