This morning the Salone Estense of the Varese town hall saw the official press conference to announce the World Final of the Sailplane Grand Prix. Aero Club Adele Orsi president Margot Acquaderni and Contest Director Brian Spreckley met with the club founder’s son Gianni Orsi, Varese mayor Attilio Fontana, Provincial president Gunnar Vincenzi and other main event sponsors including Openjobmetis CEO Rosario Rasizza to announce the start of the competition.
Aero Club Adele Orsi, local authorities and the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale have worked intensively to organise this sixth Sailplane Grand Prix World Final and to give both participants and the public the best possible venue.
The first two unofficial practice days allowed Grand Prix competitors to make brief familiarisation flights to reconnoitre the local area despite far from ideal weather conditions.
Tomorrow, Friday September 4, will be official practice day, hopefully in better conditions. These flights can be followed live with a commentary by expert pilots in both English and Italian.
The competition will be beamed live from Varese every day with English commentary for our international fans and in Italian at our airfield for locals. The commentary for the practice day will be intermittent, allowing the organisers to concentrate on last minute preparations and to test the whole system which must be ready by competition opening day Saturday September 5.
